About webcam eye tracking
Eye tracking describes the measurement of the gaze position. You can find more information on our Eye Tracking page.
Identifying gaze patterns on a website or conducting a complex pretest for your TV advertisement – there are plenty of applications. Browse through our selected applications to get inspired about the possibilities.
If you have an application in mind which is not listed here, please do not hesitate to contact us and discuss your project with one of our experts.
Is is as easy as creating an online survey. Our interface helps you to create a study with only a few clicks. Give your participants instructions, upload your stimuli (e.g., an image or video), optionally add as many questionnaires as you like – that’s all. Our software generates your individual survey link which you can send out to your participants.
Traditional eye tracking is currently applied both qualitatively and quantitatively. However, due to the known limitations (special hardware, organizational effort, etc.), these studies are expensive and carried out with a relatively small number of test subjects.
Parallel study design, no limitation by laboratory hardware, affordable incentives for the subjects, as well as a standardized aggregated evaluation of the results makes quantitative eye tracking easier than ever before.
Webcam eye tracking is easy: Eyezag’s solution does not require any installation and can be used on already existing hardware with the subject. No long setup times, no lab visits.
Webcam eye tracking is fast: It is not bound to specific laboratory times. Any number of subjects can be tracked parallel in front of their devices at home.
Webcam eye tracking is authentic: A test subject is tested in a familiar environment: On the sofa, at the home desk, and so on. There is no artificial laboratory environment or eye tracking glasses that could affect the outcome.
For advertising, marketing and UI / UX applications, webcam eye tracking can be used as well as special eye tracking devices. For use in psychology, e.g., for the detection of saccades, the image frequency of conventional webcams is not sufficient.
The accuracy of webcam eye tracking in practice mainly depends on illumination and a participant’s willingness to cooperate. Under optimal conditions, the accuracy can be compared to conventional eye trackers.
The results are generally available within a few workdays (often within one day). A detailed reporting is prepared by us on request. The implementation of a study can be carried out within a few days after consultation with the panel service provider. However, we advise to have a detailed discussion about possible ambiguities – especially if this is your first study of this kind.
Data protection is a sensitive topic especially with webcam eye tracking. Eyezag commits itself to deal with the data of the subjects responsibly.
Similar to other webcam studies, personal data is generated and stored in the form of the webcam videos of the test subjects. All subjects must allow us to do so in the form of a privacy agreement on data protection.
The willingness to participate in webcam studies is usually already clarified by panel providers in advance.

Yes. Compared to other eye trackers, we do not rely on the detection of infrared reflections on the eyes. Since our software recognizes the eyes by using image data alone, it is only important that the illumination is adequate and the eyes are not occluded.
An adequate illumination of a test subject’s face plays an important role.
Similarly, it is important that the subjects keep their heads still during the study.
Since the costs per subject are much lower than for traditional eye tracking, these factors are compensated by an over-recruitment.
